About the Aicher Impact Award
In honor of Everyday Democracy’s founder, Paul J. Aicher, the annual Aicher Impact Award celebrates and supports the practice of inclusive, multiracial democracy. In 2025, one organization that embodies the values of Everyday Democracy will receive a $5,000 cash prize.
Nomination Process
Any organization with 501(c)3 status in the United States and a budget under $2M will be eligible to be nominated. Nominees’ work should embody at least three of Everyday Democracy’s organizational values:
- Fostering relationships and active listening across differences with curiosity, respect, and appreciation for other’s perspectives.
- Building trust through transparency, communication, and accountability.
- Challenging dominant narratives to expand perspectives.
- Confronting structural oppression and inequitable systems to strengthen communities.
- Honoring local histories and embracing place-based strategies.
- Continuous learning through inquiry and practice.

Winner Selection
All nominees will be vetted by Everyday Democracy to ensure eligibility.
Nominees who wish to participate will share a brief video about their work to be uploaded to a public voting platform.
Supporters can vote for their favorite nominees from October 29 – November 12. Nominees are encouraged to promote their nomination status to their communities and supporters.
The nominee who receives the most votes will receive a $5,000 cash prize, along with a physical award, digital badge, and public recognition to help build support and expand awareness about their important work.
